As a medical professional, I am acutely aware of the relentless stress and high stakes that define our daily work environment. One often overlooked aspect of maintaining mental health is engaging in stress-reducing social activities. Sports, both as a spectator and participant, along with personal pursuits like golf, boating and piano offer invaluable opportunities for healthcare workers to decompress and rejuvenate.

The Burden of Stress in Medicine

Medical professionals operate in a high-pressure environment, making critical decisions that can significantly impact patients’ lives. This constant exposure to stress can lead to burnout, a state of emotional, mental, and physical exhaustion. Burnout not only affects the well-being of the healthcare provider but can also compromise patient care. Hence, finding effective ways to manage stress is not just beneficial but essential for medical practitioners.

The Power of Sports

Participating in or watching sports can be a powerful antidote to stress. Engaging in physical activity, such as playing a team sport, has numerous benefits.
